  • Chamonix guide to ski accommodation and skiing!

    05/07/2012

Sitting under the one of the most stunning Mountains in the world Mont Blanc  sits Chamonix at a height of 1035.

Chamonix is split up into different areas, Argentire, Brevents-Flegere, La tour and Les Houches. The valley has something to offer to all skiers and snowboarders, tree line runs, beginners slopes and for the serious skier/boarder some of the best off piste and back country, and not to forget the Valle Blanche

Chamonix has been a popular destination with the British market for many years, one of the easiest ski areas to get to by car from the Uk and with a very short transfer from Geneva Airport.

Ski passes are obtainable in two ways, Chamomix Le Pass and Mont Blanc Unlimited. Giving you skiing in Verbier and many more resorts around the Chamonix Valley

Below you find a little info on the areas within the Mont Blanc valley.

    The Grands Montets (1235 m - 3300 m)

    Amazing off piste

Spread over 3 mountain sides, the pistes of the Argentiere Glacier, Logan and Pendant offer some of the best skiing in the valley. The off piste possibilities are endless and some of the best in the world. Skiing here generally lasts until early May. At the mid station of Lognan you will find a snow park and boardercross. The ski area can be accessed by a 10 minute drive from Chamonix centre.

    Brévent / Flégère (1030 m - 2525 m)

Skiing with some of the best views in the world

The two areas have been linked by a very large cable car since 1997 and give you some of the best views in the world. The slopes here are south facing with a good selection of pistes with those amazing views of the Mont Blanc. The ski area is great for those long lunches, soaking up the sun and the views. The area can accessed from the town centre, great ski area if you are based in the town itself.

    Le Domaine de Balme (1453 m - 2270 m)

    Tree line runs

Domaine de Balme or La Tour as the locals would say is accessed from the villages of Le Tour or Vallorcine. A fantastic ski area for begineers , and for those seeking runs in between the trees. From here you have views of the Chamonix Valley, La Tour is exposed to the sun more than the other areas so great place to catch some rays. From either La Tour or Valloricine you can grab a train back to Chamonix.

    Vallee Blanche

The famous and amazing Vallée Blanche in Chamonix is an off-piste ski route, 20km long with a vertical descent of 2700m. The views are stunning and the high mountain environment provides a real sensation of back country skiing . This is one of those memorable life experiences that you'll never forget. This is a must when skiing in Chamonix.

    Les Houches

Les Houches is located around 6km from Chamonix centre. The village sits at 950m above sea level and its ski slopes reach a height of 1900 meters. Here you will find long pistes through trees with amazing views of the Mont Blanc Massif and the Chamonix valley.
Les Houches is proud to have the Kandahar run which is used the Mens downhill world cup championships.
Most of the pistes lie on pasture land, so do not require large amounts of snow to have a good base, so no worries of getting you skies or board scratched . A great area for mixed skiers and Snowboarders.
