The government of France announced on Thursday that all vehicles must carry at all times single use breathalyzer kit from November 1st.
It’s been reported for some time and was announced on February 28th 2012 and made public on Thursday. The law will be enacted on the 1st July and made effective on the 1st November.
Every driver of a land based vehicle, mopeds are not included, must carry a approved digital breathalyzer. This also includes all vehicles from outside France as well.
If caught without a breathalyzer kit will be fined 11 Euros. The new law has been brought in to reduce France’s road accident rate.
Staggering figures of 4,000 people die in France which is slightly better than the year before. 1 in 3 road deaths are related to drink driving.
The French government hope that carrying the kit will allow people to test themselves and to breathalyse others if they feel they are over the limit.
Let’s hope the above works and we think it’s a great idea!
