La Plagne ski area is made up of several resorts, some purpose built, other are traditional farming or mining villages.
La Plagne was first created around 1961, with mining on the down and farming not brining much money or food to the table, meant that many young people were leaving the villages to find work elsewhere. So the remaining locals came together and worked out a plan to save their area and in 1961 the very first drag lifts where installed and ever since La Plagne has grown into one of the largest ski areas in Europe.
La Plagne consists of around 11 sections which come together and form the area, Montalbert being the lowest of the villages and towns situated at 1350 meters above sea level and Aime La Plagne at 2, 100 meters above sea level.
The resort now with Les Arcs forms the ski area of Paradiski with over 425km of marked pistes. The ski area is very popular with the British market and has very good access links to several airports including Geneva, Chambery and Grenoble.
As for accommodation you will find more purpose built apartment the higher you go, with a good selection being ski in ski out. If you are looking for more traditional catered ski chalets or self catered chalets then the areas of Les Coches and Montalbert will offer you wide choice of excellent chalets.
