Three Valleys ski area is situated in the heart of the French Alps. For many years it has argued that it’s the largest ski area in the world with 600 km of pistes, where as the Portes du Soleil argues that they are the largest with 650 km, well the Portes du Soleil is the largest but the Three Valleys wins with the amount of lift serviced terrain there is.
A very popular ski region with the British market for a very long time and in recent years it has also been home to the rich list of Russia, sending restaurant and bar prices up. But this is not to mean that all of the Three Valleys is expensive, there are still plenty ski resorts offering value for money which include Les Menuires or Brides-les-Bains to mention but a few.
The Three Valleys has skiing to suit everyone, plenty of greens, blues and reds. Those looking for blacks and challenging off piste will find no shortage. As the name suggests there are three valleys that you can ski in but some say with the expansion of pistes into Maurienne this gives the area four valleys to ski in.
Here you will find the upmarket ski resorts of Courchevel and Meribel, which can boast a hand full of Michelin starred restaurants around 10 stars can be found here, the most stars per square kilometre in Europe. Other resorts to mention are La Tania built in 1992 for the Winter Olympics which as a stunning selection of chalets surrounded by a spruce forest, St Martin de Belleville just down the road from Les Menuires , another beautiful farming village.
If can afford to you can also fly into the Three Valleys via the only airport in the resort of Courchevel with a very short runway of 525 meters. Only for the brave we think!
