Located in the Tarentaise Valley just down the road from Val d’Isere, here you will find the ski resort of Tignes, together with Val d’Isere makes up the Espace Killy with 300km of pistes
Made up of two main parts there is Tignes at 2100m and Tignes les Brevieres at 1550m, Tignes les Brevieres is the old town where as Tignes was created in 1952 when the dam was constructed.
Like Verbier, Tignes offers some of the best lift accessible off piste and has become a Mecca for those seeking fresh snow and steep runs. As for snow conditions it has, to record some of the best snow as you will find most of the skiing is above 2100m. A good choice of pistes, for all types of skiers. From the top of the La Grande Motte you can enjoy some amazing views of the bowl down below and the peaks around the summit.
Unlike some of the lower resorts you will not find many tree runs unless you head towards Tignes Les Brevieres or over to the Val d’Isere side, though there is something quite amazing o about the Tignes bowl on a fresh day of snow and blue skies.
Thanks to the height of Tignes, you are pretty much guaranteed snow which can arrive as early as Novemeber right through to May.
A great choice of mountain eateries and there is a bit to do off the slopes for those wishing not to ski, a great leisure centre.
Also for the 3rd year Tignes will be hosting the Winter X games with some of the best winter skiers and snowboarders form around the world.
